Turtles make amends from Round 1

The Bullants season just got worse after the injury plagued side succumbed to a Turtles side that was seeking revenge after their round 1 heartbreaking loss to the Bullants.

With 9 players from round 1 missing from today’s side, Old Eltham made sure that factor would play to their favour as they dominated the early parts of the first quarter on their home deck. With Old Eltham getting out to a 5 goal lead in the second term, it was again like much of the season a Bullants side on the back foot and trying to fight their way back into the game. To the Bullants credit, the undermanned side fought hard in the second term outscoring the Turtles and getting it back to an eleven point deficit at the main break.

With the game on the line, the Bullants started to play some great team football throughout the third quarter which resulted in them pegging the lead back and hitting the front late in the third term. Unfortunately two late Eltham goals got them back out to a 9 point lead at three quarter time and handing the Bullants a monumental task to overcome in the last quarter.

Kicking the first goal of the term and getting the margin back to under a kick didnt seem the phase the Turtles as their older experienced brigade controlled the play throughout the term and got them their second win of the season and jumping the Bullants on the ladder.

Finals fading fast after loss to Bushrangers

The Bullants finals aspirations have taken a massive blow today with a lack of scoring power costing them four points and the opportunity to keep in touch with the top four after a 23 points loss to Yarra Valley in wet and windy conditions at Doncaster Reserve.

Both teams failed to score a major in the opening term as conditions were effecting both sides as the opening quarter was a midfield and defensive slog with the teams only sitting on two and one points respectively with the Bushrangers holding the narrow lead. With a slight breeze now in Yarra’s favor, they took full advantage of it outscoring the Bullants in the second term having eleven more shots on goal and holding a handy 13 point leading heading into the break in atrocious conditions.

With the Bullants season virtually on the line, they put up a brave fight in the third term but were failing to capitalize on the scoreboard and only brought the margin down by two points heading into the crucial final term.

Unfortunately opportunities that were lost in the third term came back to haunt the Bullants in the last as Yarra Valley dominated the last quarter on their home deck kicking away from the Bullants early and finishing with a four goal win to put them back in the top four and all but crush the Bullants hopes of playing finals this year.
