2020 Preseason Update Senior Men

With pre-season well and truly underway, I thought it would be a good time to bring you all up to speed on how things are shaping up for the 2020 season. The squad resumed training on Monday 25th November and completed a four-week block before breaking up for the Christmas and New Year period. A further four and a half weeks of training have been completed, after kicking off block two on 20th January.

In exciting news for our football club, Pete Satori has signed on as the Colts coach at Bulleen-Templestowe JFC. He has already been involved in previous years and achieved great success. There are plans to field two Colts teams in 2020. These boys are in very good hands. Pete is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent communicator. I have no doubt that they will develop beautifully throughout the season and confidently enter our U19s program in 2021 and beyond. Players such as Josh Torounoglou and Jake Donovan have done a bulk of the pre-season with us and have such bright futures ahead of them.

We have been able to bring a number of new recruits into the football club. I’d like to formally welcome Spencer Fraumano, Ben Pascuzzi, James Moio, Cody Cameron, Jarrara Atkinson and Brandon Van Niekerk to the Bullants family. They have integrated well, bought into our culture, trained hard, and I believe that they will be valuable additions to our playing list for many years to come. Michael Pace (ex-senior captain) has also returned to the club, and we are working hard to secure the services of additional ex-Bullants (so watch this space!). There will be greater depth in our squad and I anticipate that players such as Logan Parris, Joey Brenner, Chad Fatileh, Chris Galapi, Jake Hopkinson and Mitch Cassidy will be pushing hard to earn a place in our senior line-up.

Our current leadership group of Billy Wilson (co-captain), David Dakin (co-captain), Harry Vogler, Leith Wallis and Patrick Moio were instated prior to the 2019 season. They performed admirably and acted as a huge support for me, the board, and the playing group in general. Core values and standards were set and adhered to. They were sensational role models and definitely fast-tracked the development of our list (on a football and personal level). The old saying, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, definitely applies here. Congratulations gentlemen, I look forward to working alongside you once again.

The club motto for the 2020 season will be ‘Aim Higher’. During 2019, we were able to achieve much greater stability across all aspects of our football club. The men’s and women’s senior teams just missed out on finals (men by percentage and women by one game) and were live chances right up until the final round. The men’s reserves team battled manfully and kept fronting up every week. They showed tremendous resilience and their efforts didn’t go unnoticed. From a senior (men’s) perspective, the next step is to obviously qualify for finals for the first time since 2012 (premiership year). The playing group now possess the belief that they are good enough and have earmarked that 2020 is the year in which we will re-enter the finals fold. We aren’t starting from scratch. A game plan was implemented and the players know that it holds up against all opposition. The goal is to continually refine it so that we can hold up against any opposition, on any day, for four quarters. Ongoing learning will take place, but a lot of it will come down to experience and players communicating and understanding each other out on the field.

I personally feel as though the club is a very different place to the one that I walked into 15 months ago. There is a real energy and buzz, and it is plain to see that players, support staff, committee members etc are happy. Everyone is on the same page and eager to achieve ongoing success. Great things are certainly on the horizon for BTAFC and I encourage all of you to become actively involved in 2020. Whilst the committee has grown substantially, we are always looking for help on game days. At the very least come by, watch a game or two and re-connect with people from years gone by. We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you throughout the season.

Go Bullants!!!
