The Bullants season is all but over after Saturday afternoon’s loss to premiership contender Kew Bears confirmed that the Bullants 2016 campaign will be in Division 2.
The Bullants started the day off as everyone thought, a tough disciplined side knowing that a loss would confirm their relegation to Division 2. The Bullants had most of the playing in the opening minutes kicking the first goal of the game and showing signs they would be no easy beats today. Kew managed to gather some momentum during the quarter and started to show glimpses of the side that are one of the premiership favourites and kick multiple goals to head out to a 7 point lead. A late goal from the Bullants in the quarter got them within a point of at the quarter time siren.
During the second term the Bears started to play the footy that they have been known for in season 2015. Controlling the ball movement on their home ground the Bullants really struggled to gain any momentum and get the ball in their forward line. Having lost in form and leading goal kicker Kristian Cherbakof in the first quarter to a leg injury, the goals dried up in the term and the Bears had a commanding 40 point lead at half time.
It was a more spirited Bullants outfit in the third term. To keep their season alive it was crucial for the Bullants to fight their way back into the match and have a chance to overrun Kew in the final term. It was an all Blue & Gold third term with the boys managing to get the margin under 20 points and put in a real last quarter effort and hope to pull off an inspiring win two weeks in a row.
An emotional three quarter time speech from coach Palmer had the Bullants fired up at the start of the final term and determined to fight back. With have a bit of the play but nothing to show on the scoreboard, the Bullants heart sunk when Kew ran the ball through the corridor and managed to kick the opening goal 8 minutes into the quarter and really put a halt to a Bullants fight back. The nail was driven in the coffin moments later and Kew had an unbeatable lead and the Bullants knew that their hard fought efforts today would not get them the desired result they were after.
