Loss set’s up season defining match next week

Round-9-REVIEW-VS-STMARYS

Score: Bullants 12.17-89 def by St Mary’s Salesian 18.16-124

A similar story panned out for the Bullants on Saturday afternoon against finals contender St Mary’s Salesian. Not being switched on from the start of the game… cost’s you games. St Mary’s took full advantage of a switched of Bullants from the start. Playing their ground superbly, St Mary’s had control of pretty much the entire first quarter having 14 shots on goal to three and could have been quite easily much further in front thank the 46 point lead they took into the first break.

Hoping the quarter time break speech would fire up the squad a little, the opening parts of the second quarter seemed much more positive as the Bullants kicked the opening two goals giving a glimmer of hope to surmount a comeback. Although a 4 goal to 2 quarter for the Bullants and a more realistic chance for a fight back in the second half, a 6 goal deficit would still be a major challenge for the Blue and Gold to overcome.

The second half of the contest was pretty much a stalemate. Both sides kick nearly the same amount of goals and points eventually saw St Mary’s running out winners by 35 points.

Cherbakof was the highlight of the day after being out for sometime due to injury kicking 5 goals in his comeback match.

Next week’s game against bottom placed Yarra Valley Old Boys is now the most crucial of the year. Will finals all but gone, the Bullants challenge now is to stay in Division 1. A loss next week could all but seal their fate at the end of the year.
