The Bullants came out of the change rooms all guns blazing as the boys really took advantage of kicking with the wind in the first quarter kicking four goals to none at the quarter time break. The Bullants were relentless with pressure on the player with the ball causing numerous turnovers causing the boys putting the goals on the board. Giles and Jack Cowell were instrumental in this opening quarter effort and at the end of the term it had the “St Marys” game feel about it.
Kew kicking with the wind in the second quarter started to apply pressure to the Bullants team with a handful of their best players starting to come into the game. Kew kicked the opening two goals of the quarter to get their confidence going but an against the flow goal by Robbie Edsall lifted the Bullants slightly going into the half time break.
As the wind died down over the half time period, it looked like no side would have the advantage in the third term. Kew, being currently undefeated came out of the break and showed everyone why they were undefeated. Kew dominated most of the play in the third term and really not allowing and forward pressure from the Bullants in the term. The Bears kicked the only six goals of the quarter and kept the Bullants scoreless in what now looked like a match winning lead at three quarter time.
The final term was really just a stalemate contest. Both sides kicked a few goals each and the Bullants didnt look like they would steal the game in an unlikely comeback.
The Bullants have now lost two on the trot and will need to regroup in what may be a season defining game next week against rival Old Geelong at Como Park.
Kew Bears AFC – 11.8-74
